- Grass-fed beef is obtained from cattle which are fed on grass. Conversely, free range beef is obtained from cattle which have been given the freedom to roam around in free pastures and choose the fresh green grass, including other insects, to eat itself.
- Although, it might seem as both grass fed and free range beef are the same as they primarily feed on grass. However, they are different. A grass-fed cattle or cow can also be fed by the farmer himself. This is the case in mostly winter seasons when the animal is kept indoors and is fed stored grass by the farmer.
- There are several standards to be met by livestock farmers for their produce to either be labeled as free range or grass-fed. In the case of free-range beef, it is required to provide the animal access to the outdoors; however it is not specified whether the outdoors is a free pasture or a gravel area. On the other hand, a grass-fed beef only has a grass fed or hay fed diet.
- These two options for beef products are also considered healthier. As an animal which has been grass-fed is lower in fats compared to a grain-fed one. It also has a lot of Omega-3 fatty acids along with Conjugated Linoleic Acid, which makes it healthier.
